Does an overview appear?
Does Google answer this keyword itself?
Not every keyword triggers an overview. Knowing which ones do tells you where your organic traffic is exposed, and where it is not yet.

Every week, Cockpyt AI checks your keywords in Google AI Overviews: whether an overview appears, which sites it cites, and at what rank yours appears. Included in every plan.
Track my keywords 14 days, no credit card, 50 keywords included in the trialSince 22 July 2026, Google has been showing AI Overviews in France. On some searches, a text written by Google's AI sits above the classic results, with its own selection of sources.
The effect on clicks has already been measured. Ahrefs finds that the presence of an overview goes hand in hand with a click-through rate 58% lower for the top-ranking page, across 300,000 keywords. Pew Research reaches the same conclusion on the user side: 8% of visits click on a classic result when an AI summary appears, compared with 15% without one.
So your Google ranking no longer tells the whole story. A page can stay first and lose most of its clicks because the overview answers in its place, citing a competitor. Your rank tracker does not see it. This page shows you what happens above the first link.
Every week, each tracked keyword is searched on Google from France. The check answers three questions, in this order.
Does Google answer this keyword itself?
Not every keyword triggers an overview. Knowing which ones do tells you where your organic traffic is exposed, and where it is not yet.
Who does Google give the floor to?
The full text of the overview and all its sources, including the ones Google displays after the page has loaded. You see who is cited when you are not.
Are you the first source, or the last?
Being cited at the top of the overview does not carry the same weight as being the sixth source. Your site's rank in the overview is tracked like a classic position.
Google does not always display its overview at the same time as the page. It often arrives a few moments later, and some sources only appear when the overview is expanded. A check that captures the page too early concludes there is no overview, or keeps only half of it.
Cockpyt AI waits for each overview to load fully, including when Google loads it after the page, to capture the entire text and every cited source. When the check says “no overview”, it means Google did not show one.
Once the check is done, each keyword falls into one of these situations. That is what decides the next step.
Google recognises you as a reliable source on this topic. Your rank in the overview tells you whether you are the reference or one source among others.
To do: protect the page, keep it up to date and watch the rank. The most costly case. Google answers with content from other sites, often your competitors', above your link.
To do: study the cited sources and cover what they cover and you do not.Google still leaves room for classic results on this keyword. Your usual position remains the right metric, for now.
To do: watch for an overview appearing from one week to the next. You are among the sources, but Google puts others forward. The first sources capture attention, the last ones go unnoticed.
To do: make the answer more direct at the top of the page, with verifiable facts. An overview is triggered by a classic Google search, not by a conversation. AI Overviews are therefore tracked with keywords, separately from your questions tracked every day in ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Mode. Two different mechanisms, each measured for what it is.
You choose your keywords in three ways. From your Search Console, with your real queries sortable by impressions, clicks or position. By importing a CSV file, from Search Console or your SEO tool. Or by entering them by hand, one keyword per line. The first check starts as soon as you activate tracking, then every 7 days. Need an immediate check after a fix? Rerun your keywords with your AI credits, at one credit for every two keywords.
Volumes follow your plan: 50 keywords during the trial, 100 on Solo, 300 on Consultant, 500 on Agency, 1,000 on Scale, at no extra cost.
If you run a brand, you finally know on which keywords Google answers in your place, and to whose benefit. That is often where the drop in clicks that your rankings cannot explain is hiding.
If you support clients, each project has its own keyword list, taken from its own Search Console. You show your client what happens above their rankings, with evidence, week after week.
We would rather show the limits than leave you to guess them.
A check is a snapshot. Google does not show the same overview to everyone, or on every search. A keyword can show an overview one week and not the next. Read your results as a trend over several weeks, not check by check.
The search starts from France. The results reflect what a logged-out user in France sees, with no history and no personalisation. A logged-in user may see a different overview.
Being cited does not mean being clicked. The overview draws some clicks to its sources, but far fewer than a classic link. To see real visits, cross-reference these checks with your AI traffic.
AI Overviews tell you what Google answers. These modules tell you why, and what it brings in.
It is the answer written by Google's AI that appears above the classic results on some searches. In French, Google calls it an Aperçu IA. The overview summarises the answer and cites several sites as links. It has been available in France since 22 July 2026.
Google does not publish a rule. In practice, informational searches (how, why, which, comparisons) trigger one more often than brand or navigational searches. That is exactly what the weekly check tells you for your own keywords.
No, but it is recommended: you choose your keywords from your real queries, sorted by impressions, clicks or position. Without Search Console, you import a CSV file or enter your keywords by hand. If your client's Search Console is managed by someone else, ask to be added as a user of the property: no password to share.
Because Google decides on every search whether to show an overview, and which one. This variation is normal and does not signal a problem with the check. That is why results are read as a trend, over several weeks and across all your keywords.

AI assistants answer questions asked in a conversation, Google's overview answers a classic search. Cockpyt AI therefore tracks questions on one side and keywords on the other, and shows the two separately. Comparing the cited sites on both sides shows you whether the same competitors dominate everywhere, or only on one surface.
Choose your keywords, run the first check and see which sites Google cites in your place.
